Women Build is Habitat DC-NOVA’s campaign to bring women and gender non-conforming (GNC) volunteers out to volunteer together while raising awareness of the challenges women face in housing and other gender barriers to equitable housing opportunity.
Through Women Build, we seek to create an inclusive, collaborative environment where women can learn new skills and tangibly serve their neighbors and communities. The campaign provides opportunities for women and GNC volunteers to participate in construction and other mission activities alongside their friends, peers, and colleagues on a site that is welcoming and comfortable.
We’re proud to grow Women Build to become gender inclusive and expansive. Through this campaign, Habitat seeks to create a space for volunteers of all gender identities to participate in affordable housing work, learn new skills, and give back to their community.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers put together teams of up to 5 people – teams can be with friends, colleagues, or anyone passionate about affordable homeownership. Teams raise $2,500 (or $500 per teammate) and join us for their very own volunteer day at one of our sites. Groups can join the build site, lend a hand in a ReStore helping to process furniture donations, or even put together a playhouse to give to a local family or organization. No prior experience or tools are necessary – we’ll teach you everything you need to know on site!
Individual volunteers can join an open build day with other volunteers. The next open build will take place on July 2 from 8:30am – 3:30pm at our Constitution Ave. build site. You can sign up to join the waitlist in advance. Please know spots are limited and given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ways to give to support Women Build
Not able to join on site but still want to support the important work of equal access to affordable housing? Consider making a gift today and/or joining our Women’s Giving Circle. Funds raised go directly into Habitat DC-NOVA’s housing programs building and selling new homes. This year, Women Build is supporting our Constitution Avenue rehab converting a Capitol Hill rowhome into two condos.
Habitat DC-NOVA’s Women’s Giving Circle is a group of women who give $2,000 over two years and pool their philanthropy to sponsor Habitat homes. Members volunteer together, host social events, and build great relationships while supporting Habitat’s mission.
