This Privacy Policy applies when you make a donation, register for an event, purchase a product or otherwise provide us with information via the Habitat DC-NOVA Website located at www.habitatdcnova.org and any other domain names owned or controlled by Habitat DC-NOVA (the “Website”) or in another manner, such as via telephone, email, regular mail, social media, texting, mobile applications, at a special event, in response to a solicitation or face-to-face.

Personal contact information collected: What Habitat DC-NOVA does with it?

Habitat DC-NOVA may request from you, or you may volunteer to provide, your contact information, including your name, mailing address, phone number(s), social media handles and email address(es). Habitat DC-NOVA may, by way of example, use your contact information to:

If you make a donation or a purchase or otherwise provide your information, Habitat DC-NOVA may contact you from time to time about opportunities to make additional donations or purchases or to provide information about services from third parties.

Credit card and billing information

In addition to your contact information, when you make a donation or purchase, Habitat DC-NOVA asks for your billing address and credit card or other financial services information. Habitat DC-NOVA uses a third-party banking agent to process your payments via a secured server that verifies your credit card/bank information. Habitat DC-NOVA never retains your complete credit card number. Only employees who need access to your personal information to perform a specific job are granted access to that information, and Habitat DC-NOVA and our banking agent will not share your credit card/bank information with any other third party.

Other contact information

Habitat DC-NOVA may ask for contact information for people other than yourself, including, for example, names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of others to whom you send information or in whose honor or behalf you are making a donation or purchase. Habitat DC-NOVA uses this information to send notifications or information you requested and/or to inform the recipient of your donation or purchase, as well as to contact the recipient from time to time to inform them of other opportunities and information about Habitat DC-NOVA. Like you, the recipient will always have the opportunity to opt out of receiving future communication from Habitat DC-NOVA.


When you visit the Website, Habitat DC-NOVA may store some information on your computer or device as a “cookie” or similar file (i.e., a small piece of datum that stores information on your browser in your hard drive). When doing so, you may allow Habitat DC-NOVA to access certain information from your profile (e.g., name, email address, photo, gender, birthday, location, list of friends/contacts, whom you follow and or who follow you, your ‘likes,’ etc.). When you provide information to Habitat DC-NOVA through an application, on the Website, or on social networking platforms, it may be viewable by other users of these sites and, in such instances, Habitat DC-NOVA is not responsible for, and cannot prevent, use of the information by third parties. It is Habitat DC-NOVA’s policy not to solicit knowingly any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. Children under 13 are not authorized to make a donation or purchase, sign up for an event or program, or otherwise provide any personally identifiable information without consent from a parent or legal guardian.

How long do we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is subject to change from time to time. Habitat DC-NOVA will notify you about material changes in the way Habitat DC-NOVA treats your information by posting a notice on the Website or by contacting you directly.
