Become a Habitat DC-NOVA Advocacy Ambassador!

Your voice builds homes, communities, and hope too!

Our advocacy volunteer program gives you the opportunity to take action for affordable housing policy. Advocacy Ambassadors will support Habitat DC-NOVA’s policy advocacy efforts to advance equitable and sustainable affordable housing solutions. The Advocacy Ambassadors would be the core group of advocates ready to mobilize and mobilize others in their networks to promote our policy priorities.

Habitat DC-NOVA Advocacy Ambassadors actively engage in issue-based campaigns, meet with policymakers, and attend events to influence policy changes and promote equitable, safe, dignified, and affordable housing for all.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to organize your community to take action for affordable housing.
  • Engage with elected officials, sending messages to policymakers or other government staff voicing support on legislative action on our policy priorities.
  • Attend policy community engagement events to gather insights and be our “eyes, ears, and voices on the ground”.
  • Receive advocacy, policy and leadership training.
  • Connect, recruit, and train other local advocates and potential ambassadors to join us in tackling the affordable housing crisis together.

This program is open to anyone in the DC-NOVA service area regardless of age or background, is free, and we do ask for a year commitment.

Apply to be an Advocacy Ambassador

Four easy steps:

  1. Fill Out the Form: Complete the application form so we can know about you and what your interests are.
  2. Quick Introduction Chat: Our team will respond to your application and schedule a brief phone call with you to provide an overview of our advocacy work and answer any questions.
  3. Automatic Subscription: Signing up automatically adds you to our Advocacy Alert list, a newsletter sent every month or on a as-needed basis to keep you updated on our current campaigns and how you can participate.
  4. Register for an Orientation: After the intro call, we will set up an orientation session for new Advocacy Ambassadors. We’ll cover the root causes of the housing crisis, effective ways to advocate for more affordable housing, and hear firsthand experiences from long-time ambassadors.
