Q: Is there someone I can ask more questions to?

For additional information about our homeownership programs, please contact Kamilla Scott, Family Services Coordinator.

Q: If I’m not a good fit for your program, do you have any other resources?

Yes, we’ve compiled a list of local resources to learn about other services in the area that may be able to provide support for your current needs.

ReStores

Q: How do I schedule a donation pick-up from the ReStore?

We have two great options for donation pick-up of your large items or loads. Learn more about your options for scheduling a donation.

Q: What can I donate to the ReStore?

We accept new and gently used appliances, furniture, building materials, household goods, and more from individuals and companies. All donated items must be in clean, working, and sellable condition. There are certain items (e.g. clothing, mattresses, bedding, stained or torn upholstered furniture, etc.) that we cannot accept due to state and local health regulations.

Please note that acceptability is at the discretion of the ReStore staff. Drivers and staff reserve the right to refuse donations based on current inventory stock and condition. Please understand that our dumpsters represent a significant cost, and are for Habitat DC-NOVA’s ReStore use only. Regretfully, we cannot accommodate requests to throw away items that we are unable to accept as donations.

Q: What is the minimum age to volunteer?

To volunteer with Habitat DC-NOVA, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Activities that volunteers under 18 can complete may be limited based on safety guidelines. Volunteers who are under 18 years old must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian before volunteering.

Q: I want to bring a group to volunteer, how do I do that?

If you are looking to bring a community group (school organization, faith group, fraternal organization, or military group), please complete our interest form for either our ReStores or Construction Site. We do have limited availability but look forward to trying to find a potential volunteer opportunity for your volunteers.

Q: I want to organize a group of my colleagues from a team build day.

Our Corporate Team Build Day program is a great way for your company to support our work and bring your employees together for an engaging volunteer activity. Learn more about our build day program including sponsorship, benefits, and more.

Q: Do you take community service volunteers at your programs?

We do accept volunteers who are completing community service hours for school, work, and court-ordered hours. If you need court-ordered hours, we do require additional information to confirm that we are an appropriate fit for your needs. Please contact Rachel Jones for additional information.

It is the volunteers’ responsibility to sign in and out each time they volunteer and get their hours verified by a staff member. Our staff can provide a letter verifying hours served with two business days’ notice.
