35 years of home, hopes, community & you

This year marked Habitat DC-NOVA’s 35th year of service to the capital region we call home. In that time, we have proudly built and sold 304 homes to local families. That’s over 300 families who are building intergenerational wealth, who can now afford all of their necessities without having to pick and choose, and who can focus on building connections with their community because they will no longer be uprooted by a cycle of rising rents. We hope you’ll join us in 2026 as we continue our efforts together!

37 Home Repairs Completed

Our repair program served 37 households needing critical repairs and accessibility modifications to ensure home safety. Home repairs can include adding grab bars, railings, or ramps as well as mold removal, deck replacement and more.

10 Homes Sold

Our homeownership program welcomed 10 families into their new Habitat homes with reduced down payments and affordable mortgages – some as low as 0% interest. View photos from our ribbon cuttings for the completed homes: Skyland, Frye Road, Morrison’s Way.

30 Homes in Construction

Our construction team broke ground on more than 30 homes that will be completed over the next two years with the help of volunteers. We are currently accepting applications Constitution Avenue condos, along with two other properties.

We give thanks to the more than 2,000 volunteers who combined for over 38,000 hours at our construction sites, ReStores, and offices.

Beyond site construction, volunteers engage in a variety of ways such as building Adirondack chairs, playhouses, planter boxes, and little libraries. No matter where our volunteers are serving, they are builders of home and hope.

Together we BUILD

This spring we held two signature build events, Women Build and Pride Build, that highlight gaps in access to affordable housing and build community among neighbors through service. By working together, we can create a more inclusive region where everyone- regardless of identity- has the opportunity to build a better future through affordable housing. We will be hosting Women Build and Pride Build next year – sign up for our newsletter for updates!

Together we GIVE

Every gift makes a difference. Our giving circles bring together our supporters to engage in collective philanthropy that amplifies each donor’s impact.

  • Women’s Giving Circle- Pooling their philanthropy together to sponsor a build and volunteer together. Members connect over dinners, museum tours, build days, and more!
  • Habitat Young Professionals- Brings together donors under 40 to volunteer, advocate, and fundraise through events like their signature PumpkinFest and more!
  • Steady Level Giving Circle- Group of monthly donors who sustain the organization’s operations throughout the year.

ReStore

Our three ReStores fund Habitat’s mission and offer the community quality housewares at steep discounts. With the assortment of construction materials, home goods, and furniture, you can always find something new to you- whether you’re a DIY’er, thrifter, or professional.

  • Shop: Shopping at the ReStore is a win-win, you are helping keep items out of landfills and joining us in our work to build more accessible communities.
  • Donate: Your donation helps us raise funds to build and preserve more affordable homeownership opportunities in our area. In addition to accepting donations at the ReStore, we have three trucks that can pick-up donations in Northern Virginia.
  • Volunteer: Volunteers not only support ReStore operations- they join us in building more engaged communities.
