Last weekend we celebrated Merghani and Sara, our newest Habitat homeowners! Neighbors, volunteers, board members, and staff joined together to celebrate this momentous occasion. The renovation was special as we purchased property that we in the early 2000’s and many of the original Habitat homeowners still live in the neighborhood.
Over 20 years ago Merghani and Sara moved to America and have lived in the same unit for many years. With a family of six, they were looking for additional space and a safer neighborhood. When the opportunity arose to purchase their home, they were thrilled to invest in their future. Since moving in, the family has had a great time decorating their home and meeting their new neighbors, many of whom are Habitat homeowners.
With remarks from our President and CEO, Susanne Slater, and Kelly Renaud, Director of Construction in Northern Virginia, and Merghani, we were able to honor the exciting journey that the family has been on to becoming homeowners.
Merghani expressed his gratitude to the Habitat team for helping his family through the process and his pure joy simply own his home. In addition, the family had made some sweet treats for everyone to enjoy. After the program, we joined together to enjoy the treats, talk to the family, and meet more of the neighbors. Together, we can build joy!
