October 19-25 is National Estate Planning Awareness Week!

This week is a perfect time to consider how your legacy can make a lasting impact on affordable homeownership in DC & Northern Virginia. In 2008, the US House created a resolution recognizing the third week of October as National Estate Planning Awareness week. It was created to give Americans a better understanding of what estate planning is and why it matters.

Estate planning is about more than who gets money, it allows individuals to set up power of attorneys, health care directives, and more. Estate plans can also be updated throughout your life as circumstances change. By including us in your estate plan, you help ensure that everyone has decent place to call home even beyond your lifetime. Despite the importance of estate planning, only 32% of U.S. adults have created a will.

Consider leaving behind a lasting, influential impact on your community through planned giving at Habitat DC-NOVA. Planned giving, including bequests, trusts, and beneficiary designations, is for everyone, not just the wealthy. Even a small percentage of your estate can make a significant difference for families in need of affordable housing. Every legacy gift is deeply appreciated and helps reduce barriers to homeownership in our region.
