As summer winds down, Habitat DC-NOVA is gearing up for the rest of the year. In October, we will be hosting our Women Build+ Panel & Luncheon to hear from women leaders in housing. Women Build began as an initiative to highlight the challenges faced by women in the construction and housing industry. During that time, we have celebrated women and all they do to build homes. As the challenges facing the construction and housing industry evolved, we are proud to introduce Women Build+ because everyone can build homes, communities, and hope.
We are also happy to announce Interfaith Build, with a kick-off event on November 5. Habitat for Humanity was built on a foundation of faith. It is interwoven into our identity and through Interfaith Build, we celebrate how different faiths can be put into action to create affordable housing opportunities for families. For this inaugural Interfaith Build, we are highlighting the Glebe View townhome project on Fairfax Presbyterian Church’s land, featuring ten townhomes. The Glebe View townhomes project officially began construction last Fall by clearing the parking lot. This month, they have been laying the foundation and framing for the townhomes with contractors. We hope to have volunteers on site in 2027.
Volunteer groups continued to their hard work at 55th Street, with the framing complete for four townhomes. Contractors have also began working on electrical and plumbing in the framed townhomes. The foundations have also been laid for six more townhomes. We are so thankful for the amazing groups who have made this possible.
