Greetings Monthly Donors,
June was another busy month at Habitat DC-NOVA including our second closing in 2026! Volunteers have been hard at work across our build sites, ReStores, and A Brush with Kindness partners. In addition to major repairs and accessibility modifications, our home repair program assists homeowners with landscaping, power-washing, painting, and other outdoor cleanup tasks.
To kick-off Pride Month, we hosted a Happy Hour at Crush Dance Bar to discuss volunteer opportunities, Pride Build partners, and current projects. Pride Build brings together a diverse community of supporters committed to inclusion and collective action. Together, these efforts reflect a shared belief: expanding access to housing requires all of us working side by side.Through this initiative, Habitat for Humanity DC-NOVA brings together volunteers, partners, and advocates to expand access to safe, affordable housing while fostering a more connected and inclusive community.
Attendees also heard from Chenelyn Barker, the Director of Development at Joseph’s House, where volunteers are assisting with organizing, landscaping, painting, and other tasks to help the residents and staff. Joseph’s House is a nonprofit supporting those with HIV/AIDS and Cancer who are unhoused and have nowhere to go to receive treatment. On Saturday June 6th, volunteers participated in the first day at Joseph’s House and were treated to a poem from one of the residents. There are two additional volunteer days with Joseph’s House, July 18 and August 8th, visit Habitat DC-NOVA and filter to special events to sign up.
In addition to hosting multiple groups across 55th Street and the ReStores, we facilitated a chair and welcome basket build with Long & Foster. Volunteers assembled Adirondack chairs that are either sold in the ReStore or given to new families. Additionally, volunteers assembled welcome baskets for new homeowners. These baskets include items such as tissues, toilet paper, dish soap, dish towels, and more!
