Hello monthly donors!
We are so thankful for you and all that you do! We are working hard to find more ways to show our appreciation, and one is with a new blog just for you with project updates, interesting articles, volunteer opportunities, social events & more. In July, we will be doing a monthly donor drive to increase our Steady Level Giving Circle. If anyone has quotes or stories they would like to share about why they became a monthly donor or their connection with Habitat please let me know! You can remain anonymous if preferred.
May has been a busy month at Habitat DC-NOVA to wrap up a wonderful Spring season. We kicked off Pride Build at Boogey & Peel to discuss goals, volunteer opportunities, social gatherings, and more! This program highlights the unique housing gaps our neighbors face while providing an inclusive environment for volunteers to take direct action. We recognize that the need for stable housing impacts everyone differently, and many face systemic barriers that require intentional work to address. This program goes beyond the build site to address the historical inequities and unique housing challenges that continue to impact LGBTQ+ individuals today.

At 55th Street, volunteers have been working hard and moving fast, finishing the framing and roofing of two townhomes. We are so thankful for all the groups that have come out this month to help; Grunley Construction, Federal Capital Partners, Alfred Street Baptist, and more! 55th Street is located in the Deanwood neighborhood of D.C. and Habitat has already built here before. We are currently working on seventeen passive-housing duplexes that will have 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.

May is also recognized as Older Americans Month, a time to recognize the contributions, resilience, and independence of older adults in our communities. The need for Habitat’s work is immense. Older Americans are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the country – by 2030, 20% of the U.S. population will be 65 or older. Yet more than 19 million older adults live in homes that are in disrepair or ill-equipped to safely meet their needs.
At Habitat DC-NOVA, we’re proud to support aging in place through our Home Repair program. By completing critical repairs, accessibility modifications, and safety upgrades, we help older residents remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love. From installing grab bars and ramps to addressing essential structural needs, this work ensures that more seniors across DC and Northern Virginia can live safely and comfortably. Every repair tells a story of independence and community.

Thank you for all that you do!
